we have network clint/server network, we have windows server 2008 and 15 users windows xp,So help me to solve this problem below:
1- our office program(word, excil and outlook) is very slow when i open it i still wait about 5-10 seconds before it open.
2- when the electricity is move to off and again on i can not access to share files in server until logoff or restart all users, so please help me.

I solved my similar issue.
It would appear the cause was due to me disconnected a NAS backup drive when excel was open.
NB – I did not have a NAS file open in excel at that time.
A file on the NAS was in the recently opened list.
Deleting the recently opened list did not fix excel.
Reconnecting the NAS solved excel slow typing.

We’re having a similar issue… users opening MS Word from a single PC build (out of 8 different builds) are experiencing 15 – 30 second delays on opening MS Office while they are not at their ‘home’ site.

Unplugging the network cable makes Office work perfectly.

We tried pressing Esc to stop it looking for printers on start up but that doesn’t help, we also tried unticking the option mentioned above but to no avail. We’re using Office 2k7.

Its a bit of a mistery at this point..

Thanks for this…solved an irritating problem…the solution I used was: Uncheck “Automatically search for network printers and folders”

Its also the problem of defualt printer when its networked base.
If your printer is connected to another station and if that system is off you may exprience the office very slow.
as soon as the printer (computer) goes online the office seems to be tuned.

Similar problem and i’ve tried all your instructions, actually this was adviced by my ITadmin (somehow felt like he too went thru ur post), but the problem still persists. any action on excel takes a while, in fact it feels like another mirror file opens, something is checked and then processed. it may be just a filter or end of the page command, but takes time. all this disappears the minute i log off VPN.
would be of great help if you could get back as it would save a lot of my work time.

I had exactly the same problem. Insert a file would take up to 5 min in Outlook 2003. I removed the shortcuts to access the network and bingo, problem solved. I now access the server through the ‘network drive’ on ‘My Computer’.

hey thnx for posting the solution about increasing performance of Office package..i had a domain environment in my office and the Excel works very slow(while saving the file sometimes it take more than 5 minutes and some time have to restart the application because excel file doesnot respond)...i had applied the above solution but am sry to say that it doesnot help me out...so if their is any other solutions to improve the performance of excel in domain environment then plz help me out..u can mail me the solution at HIDDEN EMAIL thnx in advance..
